Abstract
Skull Base Osteomyelitis (SBO) is very rare and life threatening disease. This disease may typically occur due to contiguous spread of invasive infection from the ear. Severe otalgia and headaches are typical symptoms and cranial nerves may also be involved through stylomastoid foramen or jugular foramen. Most of suffered patients have systemic immunocompromised condition, often diabetes, or history of radiotherapy for head and neck cancer. SBO is most commonly caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The inadequate responses to antipseudomonal therapy and poor control of blood glucose may raise the possibility of SBO. Surgery may also indicated if the disease doesn¡¯t response on appropriate therapy. Here we have recently encountered a rare case of bilateral SBO after mastoidectomy. It is an uncommon complication of mastoidectomy, so we report about this case.
